Edgar Allan Poe (1809-1849) created the horror fantasy genre which influenced the European literature of the time and especially the cursed poets: ‘Baudelaire, Rimbaud, Mallarmé and Verlaine.’ He wrote sixty-eight short stories, among which The Black Cat (included in this volume), The Cask of Amontillado, Ligeia, The Murders in the Rue Morgue and The Purloined Letter outstand on their own known by the name of Extraordinary Tales.
